Gold bronze, Spanish coin replica charm and pendant (one).
This is my favorite jewelry finding of all time! The story behind this piece is amazing. A friend of ours in Santa Fe, NM was digging in his yard and dug up the original Spanish coin that was used to make this pendant. A totally amazing, historic find!
The Spaniards arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the 1500's and it is very likely this coin came from a Spaniard, traveling this country a very long time ago.
I learned a great deal about the coin from a very educated Spanish customer that could read the details from the back of the coin. The specifics for the coin are that it was produced at the Royal Currency House of Lima....the capital of the ancient Vice royalty of Peru. The Master assayer's name was Joaquin Negron and the coin was produced in 1736. Amazing!
We took the coin and made a mold of the coin with a loop at the top, to make the pendant that is listed here. We also molded the coin and put two loops on either side to make a link out of the coin (see additional photos).
This is an amazing representation of history in my beautiful state of New Mexico. As you will see in the additional pictures, the back of the coin is equally interesting!
